Fox was a TV channel that showed programs across many countries in East Asia. It was owned by Fox Networks Group Asia Pacific. This group is part of Disney International Operations.

The Fox network had six different versions of its channel. One version was for all of East Asia. The others were for specific countries like Japan, Thailand, The Philippines, Taiwan, and Vietnam. All these channels showed programs in their original English sound. They also had subtitles or other sound options in the main language of each country. Fox also had an agreement with a company called Tcast. This allowed Tcast to use the Fox name for a channel in South Korea until the end of 2020.

Channel History

Early Days in Japan and Asia

In Japan, the Fox channel started in February 1998. Other Fox channels like Fox Crime and Fox Life (now FOX bs238) also launched around that time.

In other parts of Asia, Fox began testing its broadcasts in December 2009. During this time, it played US TV shows over and over again. The first TV provider in Asia to offer Fox was SkyCable in the Philippines. This happened on January 4, 2010. StarHub TV in Singapore followed on February 1, 2010. Other TV companies in the region then started to carry the channel.

Around early 2012, the Fox logo changed. It became the "Fox HD" logo. This new logo was used for all Fox commercials. This happened on all Fox channels in Asia and the Philippines. This change even happened for channels that were not in HD. Other channels like Star World and FX also made similar changes. The reason for this change is not known.

Fox Channels in Japan and Korea

The Fox channels in Japan and South Korea were separate from the main Asian channel. They showed different programs. However, they were still connected. They often shared many of the same commercials. Their programming was also quite similar.

Fox Taiwan Launches

Fox Taiwan officially started on September 1, 2012. It was first called FOX Showbiz (Chinese: 娛樂台). This channel replaced Channel V Taiwan. FOX Showbiz showed Asian programs and some American TV show reruns. These programs had Chinese subtitles. The main FOX HD Asia channel was also available through MOD and some cable providers. In January 2014, FOX Showbiz was renamed simply Fox. It then showed both local and foreign programs.

End of Fox Channels

In 2020, the Star brand began to grow around the world. Because of this, Tcast, the company that ran Fox channels in South Korea, ended its agreement with Disney. Tcast changed the names of its channels after December 31, 2020. Fox in South Korea then became Ch.NOW.

On August 31, 2021, the Fox Networks Group channels stopped broadcasting in Hong Kong. All the Fox Networks Group channels in Asia (except for those in Taiwan and Japan) then stopped broadcasting on September 30, 2021. This also happened to the German and African versions of Fox. Most of their shows moved to Disney+ and Hotstar.

On January 1, 2022, Fox Taiwan was renamed Star World. This brought back the Star World brand to Taiwan. The Star World channel had previously closed there on February 1, 2020.
