Where is the Fox Theatre?

The Fox Theatre is found in a lively area of Boulder called "The Hill". This neighborhood has many shops, restaurants, and cafes. You can find the theatre on 13th Street, right next to the Tulagi's building. It's also across the street from the University of Colorado campus. The theatre can hold about 600 people for a show.

History of the Fox Theatre

The building that is now the Fox Theatre has a long history. Before it became a famous music spot, it was used for many different things. It was once the Rialto Theater, a dancing club, and even a cafe.

From Movie Theater to Music Venue

For a long time, the building was known as The Fox Movie Theater. It opened in 1961 and could seat up to 500 people who came to watch movies. This continued until 1991. After that, the building started to change. Workers began to uncover parts of the building that dated back to 1926. The big sign outside, called the marquee, and the famous Fox sign you see today are still the original ones from when it was a movie theater.

Opening as a Music Venue

The Fox Theatre officially opened its doors as a live music venue on March 6, 1992. The very first performance was by a band called The Meters.

Celebrating 30 Years

On March 6, 2022, the Fox Theatre celebrated its 30th birthday! The Governor of Colorado, Jared Polis, even made a special announcement to honor this important day.
