Where to Find the Fox Theatre

The Fox Theatre is located in a lively area of Boulder called "The Hill". This neighborhood has many shops and restaurants. You can find the theatre on 13th Street, right next to the Tulagi's building. It's also across the street from the University of Colorado campus. The theatre can hold more than 600 people for a show.

History of the Fox Theatre

Before it became a famous music spot, the building that houses the Fox Theatre had many different uses. It was once a movie theater called The Fox Movie Theater, which opened in 1961 and could seat about 500 people. It was also a dance club and a cafe at different times.

Work to change the movie theater into a music venue started in 1991. During this work, they found parts of the building that dated all the way back to 1926! The big sign outside the theatre, with its classic Fox logo, is still the original one from when it was a movie theater.

The Fox Theatre officially opened its doors as a music venue on March 6, 1992. The very first band to play there was The Meters. On March 6, 2022, the Fox Theatre celebrated its 30th birthday! The Governor of Colorado, Jared Polis, even made a special announcement to mark the occasion.
