About Francisco Carvajal
Early Life and Education
Francisco Carvajal was born in 1870 in Campeche, Mexico. He studied law, which is also called jurisprudence. This education prepared him for a career in government.
Working for the Government
Carvajal held important jobs during the time of President Porfirio Díaz. On May 3, 1911, President Díaz chose him for a special task. Carvajal was sent to a peace meeting with a rebel leader named Francisco I. Madero.
Later, in 1913, Victoriano Huerta took power from Madero. Huerta then appointed Carvajal as the head of the Supreme Court. This is the highest court in the country. On July 10, 1914, Huerta gave him another important role. Carvajal became the foreign minister. This means he was in charge of Mexico's relationships with other countries.
Becoming President
When President Huerta resigned on July 15, 1914, Carvajal was next in line. This made him the new President of Mexico. His time as president was very short, lasting only about a month.
Leaving Office
During his short time as president, Carvajal helped with the transfer of power. He worked with Venustiano Carranza and his Constitutionalist Army. This was done under agreements known as the Teoloyucan Treaties. Carvajal left his presidential office on August 13, 1914. Carranza later took control of the government.
Life After the Presidency
After leaving office, Carvajal moved to the United States. In New Orleans, he met and married Louise Martin. They had a son named Francisco Carvajal on October 19, 1918. In 1922, Carvajal returned to Mexico City. He continued his work as a lawyer there. He passed away in Mexico City on September 20, 1932.
