Frank Bank (born April 12, 1942 – died April 13, 2013) was an American actor. He was especially known for playing Clarence "Lumpy" Rutherford on the popular TV show Leave It to Beaver. This show was a situation comedy that aired from 1957 to 1963.
Acting on TV
Frank Bank became famous for his role as Lumpy Rutherford. Lumpy was a friendly but sometimes clumsy friend of Wally Cleaver. Wally was the older brother in Leave It to Beaver. Bank appeared in 50 episodes of the show. His first episode was on January 24, 1958. He stayed until the very last episode on May 30, 1963.
Years later, Frank Bank returned to play Lumpy again. He was in a sequel series called The New Leave It to Beaver. This show was on cable TV from 1985 to 1989. He played Clarence Rutherford in 101 episodes of this new series.
Frank Bank also had other acting roles. He appeared in several TV shows before and after Leave It to Beaver. These included Ford Television Theatre and Bachelor Father.
Life After Acting
After his acting career, Frank Bank started a new job. In 1973, he became a bond broker in Los Angeles. A bond broker helps people buy and sell special investments called bonds.
In 1997, Frank Bank wrote a book about his life. It was called Call Me Lumpy: My Leave It To Beaver Days and Other Wild Hollywood Life.
Later Life and Passing
Frank Bank passed away from cancer on April 13, 2013. He died in Rancho Mirage, California. This was just one day after his 71st birthday. He was survived by his third wife, Rebecca. He also had four daughters and five grandchildren. He is buried at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City, California.
