Frank Riley Castleman (born March 17, 1877 – died October 9, 1946) was an amazing American athlete and coach. He played American football and baseball. He was also a talented track and field athlete. Frank Castleman coached many different sports during his career.

He is best known for winning a silver medal at the 1904 Summer Olympics. This big event was held in St. Louis, Missouri. He competed for the United States in the 200 meter hurdles race. This is a race where athletes jump over obstacles called hurdles.

Frank Castleman was part of a sports club called the Greater New York Irish American Athletic Association. This club later became known as the Irish American Athletic Club. He mainly focused on the 200 meter hurdles. Frank Castleman finished his studies at Colgate University in 1906.

Coaching Career Highlights

Frank Castleman became a coach after his playing days. He coached at the University of Colorado at Boulder. From 1906 to 1907, he was the head football coach. His team had a record of 7 wins, 6 losses, and 4 ties.

He also coached basketball at Colorado from 1906 to 1912. His basketball teams won 32 games and lost 22. From 1907 to 1913, he was the head baseball coach. His baseball teams had 30 wins and 17 losses.

Later, Frank Castleman became the track coach at Ohio State University. This was a very successful time for him. In 1929, his team won the national championship. This was the 1929 NCAA Men's Track and Field Championships.

Later Life

Frank Castleman passed away at his home in Columbus, Ohio. He died on October 9, 1946, when he was 69 years old. He left behind a legacy as a talented athlete and a successful coach in many sports.
