Frankfort's History
Frankfort was first planned out in 1867. This happened when the Central Branch Union Pacific Railroad was being built through the area. A nearby post office, called Nottingham, moved closer to the railroad. The town was named after Frank Schmidt, who was part of the group that started the town. Frankfort officially became a city in 1875.
During World War II, Frankfort lost 32 men. This was a very high number compared to the city's population at the time.

Education in Frankfort

Frankfort High School has a strong history in sports.
- The Frankfort Wildcats boys basketball team won state championships in 1973 (Class 2A) and 2012 (Class 1A DII).
- The Frankfort football teams won state titles in 1983 (Class 1A) and 1996 (Class 2-1A). Both of these winning teams were coached by Larry Schroeder, who is now in the KSHSAA Hall of Fame.
- The Frankfort volleyball team also won state championships in 1986 and 2009 (Class 1A).
