Frankfort is a city located in Marshall County, Kansas, in the United States. In 2020, about 730 people lived there.

Frankfort's History

Frankfort was first planned out in 1867. This happened when the Central Branch Union Pacific Railroad was being built through the area. A nearby post office, called Nottingham, moved closer to the railroad. The town was named after Frank Schmidt, who was part of the group that started the town. Frankfort officially became a city in 1875.

During World War II, Frankfort lost 32 men. This was a very high number compared to the city's population at the time.

Frankfort High School has a strong history in sports.

  • The Frankfort Wildcats boys basketball team won state championships in 1973 (Class 2A) and 2012 (Class 1A DII).
  • The Frankfort football teams won state titles in 1983 (Class 1A) and 1996 (Class 2-1A). Both of these winning teams were coached by Larry Schroeder, who is now in the KSHSAA Hall of Fame.
  • The Frankfort volleyball team also won state championships in 1986 and 2009 (Class 1A).
