Township Communities
- Evans Lake once had its own post office. This post office was open from 1890 to 1900.
- Tipton is a small community within the township. You can find it where two roads meet: M-50 and Tipton Highway. This community was started way back in 1831 by a person named Rev. Henry Tripp.
It was first called Franklin Center. This name honored Benjamin Franklin, who the whole township is named after! Later, it was called Tripp Town, and then shortened to Tipton. A post office opened here on June 6, 1834. William Camburn was the very first postmaster. The Tipton ZIP code, 49287, covers most of Franklin Township. It also reaches into small parts of nearby townships.
