History of Frannie
The town of Frannie got its start in 1894. That's when its first post office opened. The very first postmaster, Mr. Morris, had a daughter named Frannie. The town was named in her honor.
For a long time, Frannie was just an "unincorporated area." This means it wasn't officially a town with its own government. But in 1954, Frannie officially became an "incorporated town." This gave it the legal status to have its own local government.
Town Government and Services
Frannie has a mayor-council type of government. This means the town is run by a mayor and a group of council members. Together, they make important decisions for the town. They manage the town's money and deal with big issues. The current mayor is Steven Richardson.
The town provides several important services to its residents. Frannie-Deaver Utilities provides natural gas. The town has also offered clean drinking water since 1955. A modern sewer system was installed in 2000. For trash collection and fire protection, the town works with other local services. The Big Horn County Sheriff's Office helps keep the town safe.
Geography and Location
Frannie is located in Wyoming, very close to the Montana border. It's about two miles south of Montana. The main road through town is US Highway 310, also known as "Ash St." Most of Frannie's residents live east of this highway.
The town is part of Wyoming's Bighorn Basin. This area is a mountain desert. It uses canals and pipelines to bring water for people, farms, and ranches. Frannie covers about 0.44 square miles (1.15 square kilometers) of land.
Unique County Borders
Frannie is special because it's the only town in Wyoming that is in two counties at once! Part of the town is in Big Horn County, and another part is in Park County. Because of this, visitors see a welcome sign that says "Biggest Little Town In Wyoming." Locals joke that it "took two counties to hold our town!" The post office and two businesses are in Park County. The Town Hall is in Big Horn County.
