Frasin is a town in the northeastern part of Romania. It is located in Suceava County, in a beautiful mountainous area. This region is known as Bukovina, a place with a rich history.
Frasin is home to about 5,800 people, according to the 2021 census. This makes it one of the larger towns in Suceava County. Frasin officially became a town in 2004. It also includes the areas of Bucșoaia, Doroteia, and Plutonița.

Frasin's Location and Surroundings
Frasin is surrounded by the Bukovina Ridges. These are part of the Obcinele Mari mountains. The town sits on the banks of the Moldova River. It is located between the towns of Câmpulung Moldovenesc and Gura Humorului. You can find it along European route E58.
The town of Gura Humorului is very close, only about 7 kilometers away. Frasin is also connected to Romania's national railway system. It has its own railway station on the railway line that runs from Suceava to Vatra Dornei.
A Look at Frasin's History
Frasin was first known as a small village in 1785. A big step for the town happened in 1816. This was when a factory that made potassium was built there. Frasin grew and was officially named a town in 1850.
For a long time, until 1918, Frasin was part of the Austrian monarchy. This was when the region of Bukovina was an Austrian crown land. It was part of the Câmpulung district.

Frasin is in the historical region of Bukovina. This area is famous for its many painted medieval churches. These churches are so special that they are listed as World Heritage Sites. One of the most well-known is Voroneț Monastery, which was built in 1488.
The area around Frasin also has amazing nature reserves. These include the ancient forest of Slătioara, called "Codrul secular Slătioara." You can also explore the beautiful forests of the Giumalău Mountains.
