History of Fredonia
The town of Fredonia was first planned out in 1836. The name "Fredonia" was quite popular in America during the early 1800s. This was partly because a person named Samuel L. Mitchill from New York helped make the name well-known.
However, people in Fredonia have a special story about how their town got its name. They say it was named after the daughter of Harvey W. Bigham, who was one of the town's founders. The state government, called the state assembly, officially made Fredonia a city in 1869.
