Freire is a town and a commune (which is like a local government area) in Chile. It's located in the Cautín Province, within the Araucanía Region. In 2012, about 21,750 people lived in the commune. The area of Freire is about 935.2 square kilometers.
Freire is an important spot because it's where Chile Highway 5 meets Route CH-199. This route connects Freire to other towns like Villarrica and Pucón.
