Alfred "Friedel" Lutz was a German football player. He was born on January 21, 1939, and passed away on February 7, 2023. Friedel played as a full-back, which is a defensive position in football. He spent most of his career playing for the team Eintracht Frankfurt. He also played 12 times for the West Germany national team.

Playing for Clubs

Friedel Lutz was born in Bad Vilbel, Germany. He started playing for Eintracht Frankfurt in 1955. He stayed with this club for a long time, until 1973.

European Cup Final

One of his biggest achievements with Eintracht Frankfurt was reaching the final of the 1959–60 European Cup. This was a very important football tournament in Europe. In the final match, Frankfurt played against Real Madrid. Real Madrid won the game with a score of 7–3.

Moving to 1860 Munich

For the 1966–67 season, Friedel Lutz joined another team called 1860 Munich. This team had just won the Bundesliga title. However, Friedel had some injuries during this season. After just one year, he went back to play for Eintracht Frankfurt. He continued to play for Eintracht Frankfurt until 1973.

Playing for His Country

Friedel Lutz also played for the West Germany national team. His first game for West Germany was on August 3, 1960, in Iceland.

Missing the 1962 World Cup

A serious injury stopped him from playing in the 1962 FIFA World Cup. This was a big disappointment for him and his country.

1966 FIFA World Cup

Four years later, he got another chance. He played for West Germany in the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England. His team did very well and reached the final. They won a runner-up medal, which means they finished second in the tournament.

Retirement from International Play

Friedel Lutz stopped playing for West Germany after the 1966 World Cup. His last game was in the semi-final match. West Germany won that game against the Soviet Union with a score of 2–1. In total, he played 12 games for the West Germany national team.

Personal Life

Friedel Lutz was married and had a son. He lived a long life and passed away on February 7, 2023, when he was 84 years old.
