Military Service
Friedrich Wilhelm was born in Brieg, a city in Silesia. He came from a family with a strong military background, so he joined the Prussian Army when he was young.
- In 1797, he started his military service in the 23rd Prussian Infantry Regiment.
- He left the army in 1804. That same year, King Frederick William III of Prussia made him a Royal Chamberlain. This was an important position in the royal court.
- In 1808, after his father passed away, Friedrich inherited the role of Castellan of Neuenrade. This meant he was in charge of that area.
- When the country needed him in 1813, he rejoined the army. He helped organize and train six companies of soldiers for the Landwehr, which was a type of reserve army.
- On August 26, 1813, he showed great bravery during the Battle of Dresden. He defended a building called the Red House against many enemy soldiers.
- From 1813 to 1815, he fought in the campaigns of the War of the Sixth Coalition. He was a captain and led a company in the 8th Silesian Landwehr Infantry Regiment.
- In 1817, King Frederick William III of Prussia honored him again, making him a Knight of the Order of Saint John (Bailiwick of Brandenburg).
- He was also a captain in the Gendarmerie (a military police force) in Breslau.
- In 1825, he was officially awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class for his heroic actions at the Red House in 1813.
- He retired from military service in 1832 and passed away in Breslau, Silesia, in 1840.
Family History
Family Symbol
The family's motto was "In Virtute Pertinax", which means "Persistent in Virtue" or "Steadfast in Courage".
The family's Coat of Arms is like a shield divided into four parts.
- On the left side, there's a red lion on a silver background. The lion holds a green oak tree, which means strength. Below that, on a blue background, are three gold stars, symbolizing divine quality.
- On the right side, there's a red castle with three towers on a silver background, representing defense and strength. Below that, on a green background, are three silver roses, symbolizing hope and joy.
- On top of the shield is a count's crown, showing their noble rank. Above the crown is a gold fleur-de-lis, which is a flower symbol from France.
- Two gold lions stand on either side, supporting the shield.
Parents
Friedrich's father was Friedrich Heinrich Ferdinand Leopold von Forcade de Biaix (1747-1808). He was also a Royal Prussian soldier, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
