Froncysyllte (say "Vron-kuh-SUL-tay") is a small village in Wales. It's often called "Fron" for short. This village is in the Wrexham area of Wales. It sits right by the River Dee and the Llangollen Canal. The main A5 road, which goes from London to Holyhead, passes through it. In 2011, about 606 people lived here.

The name Froncysyllte comes from the Welsh language. Fron means a "hill breast" or the side of a hill. Cysyllte was the name of an old area nearby. For a long time, people used to spell it "Vroncysyllte".

Village History and Landmarks

Froncysyllte is in the beautiful Llangollen Valley. It started as a place where workers lived in the 1800s. These workers were busy in quarries, lime kilns, and making bricks and tiles. The village was built on a high rock made of limestone. Even though these old industries are gone, you can still see signs of its industrial past.

One famous landmark is the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. This amazing structure is a World Heritage Site. It was built by Thomas Telford in 1795. The aqueduct carries the Llangollen Canal high over the River Dee.

Famous Choir: Voices of the Valley

Froncysyllte is home to the well-known Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir. This choir started in 1947. It was formed for the first Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. This is a big music festival. Young men from the village joined to reach the 60 voices needed to compete.

In 1955, the choir met an Italian choir at the Eisteddfod. A young tenor named Luciano Pavarotti was in that Italian group. He was so impressed when his group won first prize. This success helped him decide to become a professional singer.

The Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir released an album called Voices of the Valley in 2006. It quickly became very popular. It reached number 9 on the UK album chart. It was the fastest-selling classical record ever at that time. By 2009, it had sold over half a million copies!
