Fulk II of Anjou facts for kids
Fulk II of Anjou (around 905–960), known as the Good (French: le Bon), was a French nobleman. He was the Count of Anjou from 942 until his death in 960.
His Life as a Count
Fulk II was born around the year 905. His father was Fulk the Red. His mother was Roscilla de Loches. She was the daughter of Warnerius, Seigneur de Villentrois.
Fulk II became the Count of Anjou in 942. He took over from his father. He stayed in power until 960. The Counts of Anjou, including Fulk II, were very good at making smart marriage alliances. These alliances helped them achieve their goals.
Important Marriages
Fulk the Red, Fulk II's father, had arranged Fulk II's first marriage. He married Gerberga, who came from the Carolingian family. She was the daughter of Ratburnus I, Viscount of Vienne. This marriage was very helpful. For example, their daughter Adelaide-Blanche later married a future king of France. This made the family very important. Their son Guy also became the Bishop of le Puy.
After Gerberga died around 952, Fulk made another important marriage. He married Adelaide. She was the widow of Alan II, Duke of Brittany. Alan II had also been the Count of Nantes. This marriage likely gave Fulk control over Nantes. Adelaide was also the sister of Theobald I, Count of Blois. This allowed Fulk II to create an alliance with the powerful House of Blois.
Fulk II died in 960. His son, Geoffrey Greymantle, became the next Count of Anjou.
His Family
Fulk II and his first wife, Gerberga, had several children:
- Adelaide-Blanche of Anjou, who married five times.
- Geoffrey I, who became Count of Anjou. He married Adelaide of Vermandois.
- Bouchard, who became Count of Vendome.
- Guy of Anjou, who became the Bishop of le Puy.
- Humbert d'Anjou, who is mentioned in records from 957.
Fulk II did not have any children with his second wife, Adelaide.
