Carolingian Empire facts for kids
The Carolingian Empire (800–888) was a powerful kingdom in Europe during the Early Middle Ages. It was ruled by the Carolingian dynasty, a family of kings who were very important in shaping modern countries like France, Germany, and Austria.
This empire began when Charlemagne, also known as Charles the Great, was crowned emperor in the year 800. It lasted until 888, when his descendant Charles the Fat died. The Carolingian Empire can be seen as a later part of the history of the Frankish Kingdom or an early part of the history of France and the Holy Roman Empire.
