What is the Fundación Picasso?
The city government of Málaga started the Fundación Picasso in 1988. From the beginning, its main office has been in Picasso's birthplace. This historic house is considered a very important national monument. In 2005, the foundation also got another space nearby for exhibitions.
What You Can Find There
The foundation has several important parts:
- A special center for documents about Picasso.
- Collections of art, including some by Picasso himself.
- A team that organizes art shows and talks.
- The Museo Casa Natal, the museum in Picasso's childhood home.
Joining Forces
There were once other foundations linked to Picasso's art. For example, there was the "Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso." This foundation was connected to the bigger Museo Picasso Málaga. In 2009, these different groups decided to join together. The Fundación Picasso and the Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso became one. The new, combined foundation is now officially called the "Museo Picasso Málaga Foundation. The Paul, Christine and Bernard Ruiz Picasso Legacy." This merger helped to bring more of Picasso's work together.
Art Collections at the Museum
Besides works by Picasso, the museum also has art by other talented people. You can see pieces by Frank Rebaxes, who was a philosopher and artist. He made cool moving sculptures. There are also sketches by Luis Molledo.
Engravings and Other Art
The museum has a large collection of engravings. These are artworks made by carving designs into a surface. You can find engravings by famous artists like Pablo Palazuelo, Marc Chagall, and Joan Miró. There are also graphic works by Francis Bacon, Max Ernst, and Henry Moore.
The museum also displays art by local artists from Málaga. These include Manuel Barbadillo and Enrique Brinkmann. You can also see works by winners of a special art scholarship named after Pablo Ruiz Picasso. There is even a small collection of sculptures.
