Funen (called Fyn in Danish) is a large island in Denmark. It is located in the Baltic Sea. Funen is the third-largest island in the country. It covers an area of about 3,099.7 square kilometers.
The main city on Funen is Odense. This city is connected to the sea by a canal. However, this canal is not used very often anymore.
Connecting Funen: Bridges
Funen is very important because it connects different parts of Denmark. Many bridges link Funen to other islands and the mainland. These bridges carry both roads and railways.
Bridges to the East
To the east, the Great Belt Bridge connects Funen to the island of Zealand. Zealand is where Denmark's capital city, Copenhagen, is located. This bridge is a very long and impressive structure.
Bridges to the West
To the west, Funen is connected to Jutland. Jutland is the large peninsula that forms the main part of Denmark. Two bridges link Funen to Jutland:
- The Old Little Belt Bridge
- The New Little Belt Bridge
These bridges make it easy for people and goods to travel across Denmark.
