Early Life and Pilot Career

Gérard Feldzer was born in 1944 in a town called Aurec-sur-Loire. He started his exciting career as an airline pilot in 1973. His first job was with a company called Air Algérie.

From 1974 to 1976, he flew night flights for Aéropostale. Later, he joined Air France, a very famous airline. There, he flew many different types of planes.

He was a pilot for the Sud Aviation Caravelle, Boeing 707, and 747 aircraft. By 1989, he became a Captain. From 1992 to 2004, he was a Captain Instructor. He taught others how to fly Airbus A310, A340, and A330 planes.

Dream of Space

In 1985, Gérard Feldzer had a big dream. He applied to become an Astronaut with CNES, which is France's space agency. He was one of only ten people who made it to the final stage!

Leading Aviation Clubs

Gérard Feldzer was the President of the Aéro-Club de France from 1995 to 2005. This club is very important for aviation in France. During his time as president, the club celebrated its 100th birthday.

To celebrate, he organized a huge exhibition of planes. These planes were displayed right in the middle of Paris, on the famous Champs-Élysées avenue.

French Air and Space Museum

From 2005 to 2010, Gérard Feldzer was in charge of the Musée de l'Air. This is the French Air and Space Museum, located at Le Bourget. He brought many new and exciting things to the museum.

One of his special creations was "Planete Pilote" (which means "Planet Pilot"). This was the first space exhibition in the world made just for kids aged 6 to 12.

Helping Others and the Planet

Gérard Feldzer also cares a lot about helping people and the environment. In 2001, he helped start Zebunet. This group gives small loans, called micro-credits, to farmers in poorer countries. He has been its Vice-President ever since.

He also created "Les ailes de la ville" (The Wings of the City). This program helps young people from city areas. It teaches them how to repair and build aircraft, giving them valuable skills and job opportunities.

Since 2005, he has led the "Transports passion" association. This group organizes events and exhibitions about "ecomobility." Ecomobility means using ways to travel that are good for the environment.

On January 1, 2012, Gérard Feldzer received a very high honor. He was named an Officier of the Légion d'honneur. This is one of the most important awards in France.
