Gabrielle "Gabbie" Hanna (born February 7, 1991) is an American internet personality, singer, and author. She first became famous on the video apps Vine and YouTube.
In 2017, she released her first song, "Out Loud". She has since released two EPs (short albums), 2WayMirror (2019) and Bad Karma (2020). Her first full album, Trauma Queen, came out in 2022.
Gabbie is also a successful author. She has written two poetry books, Adultolescence (2017) and Dandelion (2020). Both books became New York Times Best Sellers.
Early Life and Education
Gabbie Hanna was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania. She went to the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 2013. She studied psychology and communications.
After college, she worked for a marketing company. She was very good at her job and became the top salesperson in the country. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio, to help open a new office. However, she left the company when she learned it was not an honest business.
Career Beginnings on Vine and YouTube
Hanna started making short, funny videos on the app Vine in 2013. She became very popular and had about five million followers.
In 2014, she started a YouTube channel called The Gabbie Show. After Vine shut down in 2016, she focused on making videos for YouTube. Her channel grew, and she was nominated for two Teen Choice Awards that year.
In 2015, Hanna competed on a web show called Dance Showdown with her partner Matt Steffanina. They won the competition. She later moved to Los Angeles and worked for the internet company BuzzFeed for a short time before deciding to focus on her own channel.
Music, Books, and Television
First Songs and Poetry Book
In 2017, Hanna's career grew in new ways. She published her first book of poetry, called Adultolescence.
That same year, she released her first single, "Out Loud," and its music video. She also joined the social media team for MTV. She appeared on the web series Escape the Night and co-hosted the TV show Total Request Live.
Becoming a Storyteller
In 2018, Hanna released more music, including the single "Honestly". At the Streamy Awards, she won the award for Storyteller.
A video of her singing her song "Monster" became a popular meme. In the video, there was a technical problem with the microphone. Fans edited the silent part with funny sounds. Hanna embraced the meme and even sold merchandise with her face from the video.
Albums and EPs
On May 31, 2019, Hanna released her first EP, 2WayMirror. The songs were popular, and she reached number 5 on Billboard's Top Emerging Artists chart.
Her second EP, Bad Karma, was released on May 15, 2020. Later that year, she released her second poetry book, Dandelion.
Hanna released her first full album, Trauma Queen, on July 22, 2022. A few months later, she released another album called This Time Next Year on December 23, 2022.
Personal Life
Hanna has been open about her Christian faith, which has inspired some of her songs and poems. She has also talked about her experiences with mental health challenges.
In 2022, she posted hundreds of unusual videos and messages on social media over a few days. This caused many of her fans to become concerned about her well-being.
Hanna took a break from social media from early 2023 to March 2024. During her break, she began working as a fitness instructor at a YMCA in her hometown. She said she stepped away from the internet to focus on her mental health.
