Gabriel Ferrater i Soler
Gabriel Ferrater i Soler was a famous Catalan writer.

Gabriel Ferrater i Soler (born May 20, 1922 – died April 27, 1972) was a talented writer, translator, and language expert from the 1960s. He wrote in the Catalan language. His poems are very important in Catalonia, especially for writers who came after the Spanish Civil War. Many writers today are still inspired by him. He put all his poems into one book called Les dones i els dies (which means "Women and Days") in 1968. This book was a big deal in Catalan literature.

Gabriel Ferrater's Writings

Gabriel Ferrater was inspired by famous writers like Thomas Hardy, W. H. Auden, and Shakespeare. He often wrote about missing the past. His poems In memoriam and Poema inacabat (meaning "Unfinished Poem") openly talked about the Spanish Civil War and its effects. These effects were still felt when he was writing.

His writing style was realistic, but he also used unusual images and ideas from deep thinkers. Gabriel Ferrater was a unique thinker who greatly influenced younger writers. His poetry was similar to that of poets like Robert Graves and W. Auden.

Ferrater as a Teacher and Translator

Gabriel Ferrater taught about language and literature at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He also wrote articles about language ideas for a magazine called Serra d'Or from 1969 to 1972. These articles were called De causis linguae. He even started to write about how poetry uses sounds, based on ideas from a famous language expert named Noam Chomsky.

He translated several important books into Catalan. These included The Trial by Kafka, Language by Leonard Bloomfield, and Cartesian linguistics by Noam Chomsky.

Gabriel Ferrater passed away in April 1972 in his flat in Sant Cugat.
