Gabriela Braga Guimarães (born on May 19, 1994), known to many as Gabi, is a famous Brazilian volleyball player. She plays as an outside hitter, which means she is a key player who attacks from the front row and also helps with defense. Gabi has won many awards and medals throughout her career. She earned a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and a bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris with the Brazilian national team.

Gabi's Volleyball Journey

Starting Young

Gabi grew up in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Before she started playing volleyball, she tried out other sports like swimming, tennis, and football. When she was 14, she decided to join a volleyball team at her school, Colégio Pitágoras, because her friends were playing.

She tried to join the Minas Tênis Clube team, which was linked to her school. However, she was told she was too short to play. But Gabi didn't give up! She then joined Mackenzie Esporte Clube, where her aunt had once won a volleyball championship. There, coach Delicélio Rodrigues gave her a chance.

Early Success and National Team Calls

In her first year at Mackenzie, Gabi was chosen to play for the Minas Gerais youth state team. Soon after, she was invited to join the Brazil national youth team. In 2010, she helped Brazil win the South American Championship in Lima, Peru. Gabi was even named the tournament's "Best Spiker" and "Most Valuable Player" (MVP).

In 2011, Gabi played for the Brazil national youth team again at the FIVB Girls' Youth World Championship in Ankara, Turkey. Brazil finished sixth, but Gabi was amazing! She scored 155 points, making her the top scorer of the entire tournament. She was also one of the best players in spiking, blocking, serving, and digging.

Playing for Clubs and Winning Medals

Gabi continued to play for her club teams in Brazil. In 2014, she helped her national team win a bronze medal at the World Championship by beating Italy.

In 2015, Gabi played for the Brazilian club Rexona Ades Rio. She also helped her national team win the gold medal at the South American Championship. She was named the "Most Valuable Player" and "Best Outside Hitter" for that tournament.

In May 2018, Gabi joined Camponesa/Minas TC. She wanted to play with her friend Natália Pereira and be closer to her family. With Minas, she won the Minas Gerais State Championship in 2018. She also helped her team win a silver medal at the 2018 FIVB Club World Championship and was named "Best Outside Spiker."

In 2019, Gabi and her team, Itambé/Minas, won the Copa Brasil and became South American Club Champions for the second time. She was again named "Best Outside Spiker." She also helped her team win the 2018–19 Brazilian Superliga.

Later in 2019, Gabi helped the Brazil national team win a silver medal at the Nations League. She was named "Best Outside Spiker" for that tournament too.

Moving to Turkey and Olympic Success

After her great performances, Gabi signed with the Turkish club Vakifbank Istanbul for the 2019–20 season. She played there until 2024.

In 2021, Gabi led the national team to two silver medals: one at the Nations League and another at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
