Gainford is a small community known as a hamlet in Alberta, Canada. It is located within Parkland County. Gainford is about 86 kilometers (53 miles) west of the city of Edmonton. It sits at an elevation of 740 meters (2,428 feet) above sea level.
This hamlet is part of Census Division No. 11. It is also in the federal voting area called Yellowhead. The northern edge of Gainford touches the shore of Isle Lake, sometimes called Lake Isle. The main road, Yellowhead Highway (Alberta Highway 16), goes right through Gainford.
Gainford's History
The first post office in Gainford opened its doors in 1910. The community got its name from a place in England. It was named after Gainford, County Durham, which is in England.
