History of Galateo Alto
Becoming Part of the United States
After the Spanish–American War, Puerto Rico became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
Early Population Counts
In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census in Puerto Rico. A census is like a big count of all the people living in an area. They found that 1,063 people lived in the Galateo Alto barrio at that time.
