Garden City is a city in Chatham County, Georgia, United States. It's located just northwest of Savannah. In 2020, about 10,289 people lived there.

Garden City is a mix of homes and factories. It's home to many important industries in Chatham County. The city also hosts the largest and busiest ocean terminal of the Port of Savannah. This port is a major part of the Georgia Ports Authority.

The city was created in 1939 and was first called "Industrial City Gardens." It was built to house the many workers needed for the new factories and chemical plants nearby. Garden City is part of the bigger Savannah area.

Garden City is found northwest of the center of Chatham County. It shares borders with other cities. To the southeast is Savannah, to the west is Pooler, and to the north is Port Wentworth. To the northeast, you'll find the Port of Savannah and the Savannah River.

The city covers about 37.1 square kilometers (14.3 square miles) in total. Most of this area is land, about 35.5 square kilometers (13.7 square miles). The rest, about 1.6 square kilometers (0.6 square miles), is water.

The State Farmers Market is located at 701 West U.S. Highway 80. It's a place where farmers can sell their goods. The Georgia Department of Agriculture runs this market.

You'll find many businesses near the crossing of U.S. Highway 80, U.S. Highway 17, and State Highway 21. This area was once known as Traffic Circle. Along Augusta Road (Highway 21), there are hotels, restaurants, banks, and shops. You can also find gas stations and car repair shops there.

Robert W. Groves High School

Groves High School has been an important part of the community since 1958. It was named after Robert W. Groves, a local business and community leader. He cared a lot about young people and their education.

The school's sports teams are called the Fighting Scottish Rebels. The school also has the Woodville-Tompkins Annex, where students can learn about automotive and construction. Cumming Field is named after Britt C. Cumming, a World War II veteran.

George A. Mercer Middle School

Mercer Middle School serves students in grades six through eight. It first opened on September 4, 1962. It was the first school in Georgia to have air conditioning! The school is named after George Anderson Mercer, who was a lawyer and led the Board of Education for many years.

Garden City Elementary School

Garden City Elementary School was built to bring together students from two older schools: Benjamin Sprague and Martin G. Haynes elementary schools.
