History of Port Wentworth

The city of Port Wentworth was officially created by the Georgia General Assembly in 1957. This means it became a recognized city with its own local government.

Sugar Plant Accident in 2008

On February 7, 2008, a serious accident happened at the historic Dixie Crystals sugar plant. This plant was built in 1916. The accident caused a large explosion that was heard far away. It was a sad event that brought a lot of attention to Port Wentworth from around the world.
