Garden River, also called Garden Creek, is a small community in northern Alberta, Canada. It is located inside Wood Buffalo National Park. This community sits on the north side of the Peace River. You can reach it by Garden River Road, which is part of Highway 58. Garden River is about 190 kilometers (118 miles) east of High Level. It is home to members of the Little Red River Cree Nation, a First Nations group. The name in Cree is Cree: ᓂᐦᑖᐏᑭᐦᒋᑫᐤ ᓰᐲᓯᐢ, nihtâwikihcikêw sîpîsis.

The Story of Garden River
Garden River has a unique history. For a long time, this community was not officially recognized by the Canadian government. It was located about 5 kilometers (3 miles) inside the original boundary of Wood Buffalo National Park.
However, things changed on June 19, 2017. A special update to the Canada National Parks Act officially removed Garden River from the park. This was a big step for the community. The government of Alberta is also working to create a new Indian reserve for Garden River. This new reserve would be the third one for the Little Red River Cree Nation. Their other reserves are Fox Lake 162 and John D'Or Prairie 215.
