History of Gary, Minnesota
Gary was first planned out in 1883. It was named after Garrett L. Thorpe, who was an important merchant in the early days. A post office has been open in Gary since 1887, helping people send and receive mail.
Geography and Location
Gary is a small city in terms of size. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city covers about 0.33 square miles (0.83 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the city limits.
A special path called the Agassiz Recreational Trail goes right through Gary. This trail is 53 miles long and is built on an old railroad line. People can use it for walking, biking, and other activities.
