Gary Harris (born September 14, 1994) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the Milwaukee Bucks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before joining the NBA, he played college basketball for the Michigan State Spartans.

Gary Harris's Early Life and High School Basketball
Gary Harris grew up in Fishers, Indiana. He went to Hamilton Southeastern High School. He was a great player from the start.
High School Achievements
As a sophomore in 2009–10, Gary scored about 14 points per game. He helped his team, Hamilton SE, win 17 games and lose only 4.
In his junior year (2010–11), he averaged 18.6 points per game. He also grabbed 5 rebounds and made 3 assists per game. He led his team to a 20–4 record. They even won their second-ever sectional championship.
In November 2011, Gary decided to play college basketball for Michigan State University.
During his senior year (2011–12), Gary was even better. He averaged 25.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4 steals per game. He helped his team reach the Class 4A sectional final. He finished his high school career with a school record of 1,540 points.
Gary was considered one of the best high school players in the country. Experts ranked him highly among all players and among shooting guards.

Gary was also a talented football player at Hamilton SE. He played as a wide receiver. He helped his football team win three league championships. He also won a sectional championship in his senior year.

Gary Harris played college basketball for Michigan State University. He quickly became a key player for the Spartans.
Freshman Year Success (2012–13)
In his first year, Gary was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. He was the first Spartan to win this award since 1986. He was also chosen for the second-team All-Big Ten. He played in 34 games, starting 33 of them. He averaged 12.9 points per game.
Sophomore Year Highlights (2013–14)
In his second year, Gary continued to shine. He was named first-team All-Big Ten. He also made the All-Big Ten Defensive Team. In one game, he scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. This was his first "double-double." On January 25, 2014, he scored a career-high 27 points against Michigan. He averaged 16.7 points per game in 35 games.
On April 14, 2014, Gary decided to enter the 2014 NBA draft. This meant he would leave college early to play professionally.

Gary Harris has played for several teams in the NBA.
Starting with the Denver Nuggets (2014–2021)

On June 26, 2014, the Chicago Bulls picked Gary Harris as the 19th overall player in the 2014 NBA draft. However, he was soon traded to the Denver Nuggets on the same night. He signed his first NBA contract with the Nuggets on July 31.
Gary missed the first few games of the 2014–15 season due to a back injury. He made his NBA debut on November 14, scoring 13 points.
In the 2015–16 season, Gary became the Nuggets' starting shooting guard. On November 20, he scored a career-high 20 points. He later tied that record with 21 points in two different games in December. He continued to improve, scoring 21 points again in March 2016.
In July 2016, Gary joined the Nuggets for the 2016 NBA Summer League. He faced some injuries during the 2016–17 season. He missed time with a groin injury and a foot injury. When he returned, he started setting new career highs. On December 19, he scored 24 points. He then scored 25 points in February 2017, 26 points in March, and a new high of 28 points on March 20, 2017.
On October 12, 2017, Gary signed a four-year contract extension with the Nuggets. On December 13, 2017, he scored a career-high 36 points. He repeated this 36-point performance on January 3, 2018. On February 1, 2018, he made a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer. He finished that game with 25 points.
Gary dealt with some injuries in the 2018–19 season. He missed games due to a hip injury, hamstring tightness, and a leg muscle strain.
Time with the Orlando Magic (2021–2025)
On March 25, 2021, Gary Harris was traded to the Orlando Magic. This trade also included other players and a future draft pick.
On June 30, 2022, Gary signed a new two-year contract with the Magic. On August 27, he had surgery on his left knee. On December 29, he was suspended for one game. This happened because he left the bench during a fight in a game.
On July 6, 2024, Gary signed another two-year contract with the Magic. However, on June 16, 2025, the Magic decided not to keep him for the next season. This made him a free agent.
Joining the Milwaukee Bucks (2025–Present)
On July 8, 2025, Gary Harris signed a contract to play for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Gary Harris's Family Life
Gary Harris is the son of Gary and Joy Harris (whose maiden name was Holmes). His mother, Joy, was also a basketball player. She played college basketball for the Purdue Boilermakers. She also played professionally in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) for the Detroit Shock.
