Gary Dajaun Trent Jr., born on January 18, 1999, is a professional basketball player from America. He plays for the Milwaukee Bucks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before joining the NBA, he played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Gary Trent Jr. is the son of Roxanne Holt and Gary Trent, who was also a professional basketball player. Gary has three brothers: Garyson, Grayson, and Graydon. His father, Gary Trent Sr., won a gold medal with the U.S. Olympic Festival North Team in 1993. He also played basketball at Ohio University and spent nine years in the NBA.
Trent Jr. first went to Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, Minnesota. In his second year, he scored an average of 21.5 points per game. During his third year, he averaged 26.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He was named Gatorade Minnesota Player of the Year and a first-team junior All-American by Maxpreps.
Before his final year of high school, Trent Jr. moved to Prolific Prep Academy in Napa, California. In his senior year, he averaged 31.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. He helped his team achieve a great 29–3 record. After this successful year, he was chosen to play in the 2017 Jordan Brand Classic and the 2017 McDonald's All-American Boys Game.
Becoming a Top Recruit
Trent Jr. was considered one of the best high school basketball players in 2017. Experts from Scout.com, Rivals.com, and ESPN all rated him as a five-star recruit. He was ranked as the No. 8 overall recruit and the No. 1 shooting guard in his high school class.
College Career at Duke
Trent Jr. officially decided to attend Duke University on November 10, 2016. His group of incoming players at Duke was very strong. It included seven highly-rated recruits, with four of them, like Trent, being five-star players. This group was seen as the best incoming class in the country.
Duke started the season as the number one team. They stayed among the top ten teams all season, even with four freshmen starting. Trent had many impressive moments during his college year. On December 9, 2017, he scored 25 points against Boston College. He also tied a Duke freshman record by making six three-point shots in that game.
On January 15, Trent scored a career-high 30 points against Miami. This helped Duke make a comeback and win the game. A week later, on January 22, 2018, Trent was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Player and Rookie of the week. On January 29, 2018, he had a "double-double" with 22 points and 10 rebounds in a win against Notre Dame.
Duke entered the ACC tournament as the second seed. They won their first game against Notre Dame. However, they lost in the semi-finals to their rival, North Carolina.
Duke was the top seed in the Midwest region for the 2018 NCAA men's basketball tournament. They won against Iona, Rhode Island, and Syracuse. This helped them reach the fourth round, known as the Elite Eight. In a close game, they lost to Kansas in overtime.
After the season, all five of Duke's starting players decided to become professional basketball players. This included one senior, Grayson Allen, and four freshmen: Trent, Marvin Bagley III, Wendell Carter, Jr, and Trevon Duval.
Professional Basketball Journey
Portland Trail Blazers (2018–2021)

On June 21, 2018, Gary Trent Jr. was chosen by the Sacramento Kings as the 37th pick in the 2018 NBA draft. Soon after, he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. Trent Jr. signed a three-year contract with the Trail Blazers on July 6.
In his first year, Trent played in 15 NBA games. He averaged 2.7 points per game. For much of that season, the Blazers sent him to the Texas Legends to play in the NBA G League. This helped him get more playing time and experience.
During his second and third years in the NBA, Trent's performance improved a lot. In the 2019–2020 season, he played about 22 minutes per game and scored 8.9 points. In his third season, he played about 31 minutes per game and averaged 15 points.
Toronto Raptors (2021–2024)
On March 25, 2021, the Toronto Raptors got Trent Jr. and Rodney Hood in a trade. On March 31, Trent Jr. scored a career-high 31 points in a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. On April 2, he had an amazing game against the Golden State Warriors. He recorded the second-highest plus–minus (+54) since the NBA started tracking this stat in 1996. This means his team scored 54 more points than their opponents while he was on the court.
On April 10, he scored a new career-high of 44 points. He made 17 out of 19 shots in a big 135–115 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. On August 2, 2021, Trent Jr. signed a new three-year contract with the Raptors for $54 million.
In January 2022, Trent Jr. had a fantastic streak of games. On January 25, he scored 32 points against the Charlotte Hornets. The next day, he scored another 32 points, making six three-pointers against the Chicago Bulls. In a triple overtime game on January 29, Trent Jr. scored 33 points and had five steals.
On January 31, Trent Jr. made nine three-pointers, scoring 31 points against the Atlanta Hawks. He became only the second Raptor, after Kyle Lowry, to hit 5 or more three-pointers in four games in a row. On February 1, he scored 33 points, marking his fifth straight game with 30 or more points. He joined DeMar DeRozan as the only Raptors to do this. On February 10, Trent Jr. scored a season-high 42 points. He also had five steals and made five three-pointers against the Houston Rockets. On March 11, he tied his season-high of 42 points, making 8 of 11 three-point shots against the Phoenix Suns.
On June 20, 2023, Trent Jr. decided to stay with the Raptors for the 2023–24 season. On December 18, 2023, he achieved his first career double-double. He scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a win against the Charlotte Hornets. On March 7, 2024, Trent Jr. scored a season-high 30 points against the Phoenix Suns. On April 5, 2024, he helped the Raptors end a 15-game losing streak by scoring 31 points in a win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
Milwaukee Bucks (2024–Present)
On July 20, 2024, Trent Jr. signed a one-year contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Career Highlights and Statistics
Gary Trent Jr. has had a successful career so far. He was part of the team that won the 2024 NBA Cup. In high school, he was a McDonald's All-American. He also won gold medals with the U.S. national team in the 2015 FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship and the 2016 FIBA Under-17 World Championship. He was even named MVP of the 2015 FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship.
