The Church of Saint Bartholomew

The Church of Saint Bartholomew north of Gavín

The Church of Saint Bartholomew is a special old church. It is part of a group called the Serrablo churches. These churches have a unique style. They mix early Romanesque and Mozarabic designs. Romanesque style uses thick walls and round arches. Mozarabic style comes from Christians living under Muslim rule.

Experts believe the church was built a very long time ago. This was likely in the 10th or 11th century. The building has a main hall called a nave. This hall ends in a rounded part called an apse. There is also a bell tower with special windows. These windows have Horseshoe arches, which look like a horseshoe. The church is located just north-east of Gavín. It is near where two small rivers meet.

The Monastery of Saint Pelagius

The Monastery of Saint Pelagius is another historic site. It also belongs to the Serrablo churches group. Like the church, it shows early Romanesque and Mozarabic designs. A monastery is a place where monks live and worship.

Archaeologists dug up this site in 1997. They think it was also built in the 10th or 11th century. During the digging, they found many things. They discovered that the monastery had two churches next to each other. There was also a tower and a dormitory. A dormitory is a place where monks slept. Other buildings for the monks were found too. The monastery is located a few kilometers from Gavín. It sits on the left side of the River Sia.
