Geghuni Chitchyan (Armenian: Գեղունի Հովհաննեսի Չթչյան; born August 30, 1929) is a famous Armenian composer, pianist, and teacher. She has created many beautiful pieces of music. Her parents were experienced teachers, and her brother, Henrikh, was a well-known violinist.

About Geghuni Chitchyan's Life

Geghuni Chitchyan was born on August 30, 1929, in a city called Leninakan. Today, this city is known as Gyumri in Armenia. She started composing music while she was attending the Tigranian Elementary School of Music.

By the time she was just ten years old, one of her songs had already been published! In 1940, she joined the Tchaikovsky Music School in Yerevan. There, she studied both piano and how to compose music.

She continued her studies in composition from 1947 to 1953. She learned from Grigor Yeghiazaryan at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory.

After finishing her studies, Chitchyan became the first director of the composition department. This was at the Konstantin Sarajev Music School in Yerevan. In 1971, she started teaching at the Yerevan Conservatory. She became an assistant professor in 1982 and a full professor in 1990.

Chitchyan has been very active in different music and community groups. She joined the Armenian Composers Union in 1955. She was also part of the Women's Council of Armenia. She helped with the Artistic Forum of State Radio. She has written books to help people learn music. She also helped write a music textbook for school children.

Her music has been performed in many countries around the world. These include the United States, Canada, Russia, England, France, and many more. Special concerts featuring her music have been held in cities like Moscow, Yerevan, and San Francisco.

Geghuni Chitchyan has won more than 30 international and national awards.
