The Chevrolet C/K was a very popular line of full-size pickup trucks. They were made by Chevrolet and GMC. These trucks were produced for many years. They were built from 1960 to 1999 in the United States.

In Canada, C/K trucks were made from 1965 to 1999. Some countries in South America also produced them. For example, they were made in Brazil from 1964 to 2001. In Chile, production ran from 1975 to 1982.

The Start of Chevrolet Trucks

Chevrolet made its very first pickup truck in 1918. Back then, things were a bit different. Buyers had to get the truck's cab (the part where people sit) separately. It was often made of wood.

Sometimes, the buyer would add the cab themselves. Other times, a special company would add it to the truck's frame. The same was true for the steel cargo bed. This is the open area at the back for carrying things.

Understanding C and K Models

The names "C" and "K" told you something important about the truck.

  • A "C" model meant the truck had two-wheel drive. This means power goes to only two wheels.
  • A "K" model meant the truck had four-wheel drive. This sends power to all four wheels. Four-wheel drive is great for off-road driving or bad weather.

The C/K's Replacement

The C/K pickup trucks were very successful for many decades. Eventually, newer designs and technologies came along. In 1999, the C/K light-duty trucks were replaced.

In the US and Canada, they were replaced by the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Before this, "Silverado" and "Sierra" were just names for different trim levels of the C/K trucks. A trim level is like a special package of features.

In Brazil, the C/K trucks were replaced later, in 2001. There, the new heavy-duty trucks were called the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD.
