Geoff Morrell (born 19 February 1958) is a well-known Australian actor. He has appeared in many popular TV shows and movies. You might know him from shows like Murder Call, Grass Roots, and Blue Heelers. He has also acted in big international productions.

Geoff Morrell's Early Life and Education

Geoff Morrell was born in Fairfield, a suburb in Western Sydney, Australia. His father was a schoolteacher. When Geoff was nine, his family moved to Wollongong.

After finishing high school, Geoff didn't do very well in his studies. He then worked at the Port Kembla Steelworks. However, he decided to go back and repeat his final year of high school. This time, he worked very hard and achieved excellent results.

Geoff received a scholarship to study a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Wollongong. While at university, he discovered his love for acting. He performed on stage for the first time in a play called The Importance of Being Earnest. He also became the President of the Student Representative Council. He finished his degree in 1979.

Geoff Morrell's Acting Career

Geoff Morrell started his acting journey in theatre. He was one of the people who helped create the Theatre South acting group. In 1983, he spent some time in England, where he acted in several plays.

Starting in Film and TV

In 1985, Geoff began acting in films. He had a small role in a TV movie called Lady Windermere's Fan. For the next few years, he worked in both theatre and film. He acted in famous plays like Macbeth and King Lear. He also had supporting roles in Australian films such as Blackrock and Oscar and Lucinda.

He also made guest appearances in TV series like The Secret Life of Us, Stingers, and Farscape. In 1986, Geoff starred as Harry in the first Australian production of the play Away.

Major TV Roles

After filming Oscar and Lucinda, Geoff got a big role as forensic scientist Lance Fisk in the TV series Murder Call. This show was on air from 1997 to 1999. In 2000, he landed another important role as the main character in the ABC series Grass Roots.

Geoff won an AFI Award for Best Actor in 2000 for his work in Grass Roots. He was also nominated for this award four other times. He was also nominated for three Silver Logies for his roles in Grass Roots and Changi.

In 2004, Geoff joined the popular police series Blue Heelers. He played Sergeant Mark Jacobs. He later decided to leave Blue Heelers because he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Recent Work in Film and TV

Geoff has continued to act in many projects. In 2010, he returned to ABC to star with Richard Roxburgh in the first season of Rake. He played Joe Sandilands, a fictional Attorney-General.

In 2015, he appeared as Inspector Clive Small in the miniseries Catching Milat. He also acted in the feature film Rogue and Ten Empty. In 2010, he started working on Cloudstreet, a TV miniseries based on a famous novel. He played the character Lester Lamb.

More recently, Geoff Morrell has appeared in many other productions. These include the international series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. In 2023, he was announced as part of the cast for the Foxtel drama High Country and the Stan series Thou Shalt Not Steal. In 2024, he was cast in the movie The Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky with Liam Neeson. He was also announced for the second season of Mystery Road: Origin.

Geoff Morrell's Personal Life

Geoff Morrell is married to Australian actress Caroline Brazier. They met while working on the 2007 thriller movie Rogue and got married in 2008.

He also has two children from his previous marriage to Megan, which happened in the early 1980s.

Besides acting, Geoff Morrell is also a talented visual artist. He has held several art exhibitions since 1995.
