George Henry Dockrell, born on July 22, 1992, is a talented Irish cricketer. He plays for the Ireland international team. George learned to play cricket at the Leinster Cricket Club in Dublin.

He is known as an all-rounder in cricket. This means he is good at both batting and bowling. George is a right-handed batsman. He bowls using a style called slow left-arm orthodox. George was given a full-time contract by Cricket Ireland in 2020.

Early Cricket Days

George Dockrell started playing cricket for Ireland at a young age. He represented his country from the Under-13 level onwards. In 2009, George was part of the team that won the 2010 U-19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. This win allowed Ireland to play in the 2010 U-19 Cricket World Cup.

During this tournament, George played his first Youth One Day International match. It was against the South Africa Under-19s. He played three more Youth One Day Internationals in that competition. In 2008, George also played for Ireland A, which is a team for promising players.

Playing for Clubs

Somerset County Cricket Club

Somerset County Cricket Club showed interest in George Dockrell when he was just 15. In July 2010, Somerset offered him a two-year contract. George wanted to keep improving with Ireland. He also aimed to join a county's main team.

He missed some games for Somerset because he was playing for Ireland. George also dislocated his shoulder, which meant he missed more of his first season. He played one County Championship match. He played more often in shorter games, like the Twenty20 Cup semi-final.

In 2012, George had a great start for Somerset. He took 6 wickets for only 27 runs against Middlesex. This helped his team win the match. George left Somerset at the end of the 2015 season.

In 2018, George Dockrell was the best player in the 2018 Inter-Provincial Cup. He scored 231 runs and took ten wickets. He was named the Men's Inter-Provincial Player of the Year.

In 2019, he was chosen for the Dublin Chiefs team. This was for a new tournament called the Euro T20 Slam. However, the tournament was later cancelled. In May 2021, George scored his first century in List A cricket. He scored 100 runs without being out for Northern Knights. In July 2024, George signed a short-term contract with Lancashire.

Early International Matches

In early 2010, Ireland needed new spin bowlers. George Dockrell was chosen for the team. He made his debut for the senior Ireland team in February 2010. This was in a Twenty20 match against Afghanistan. George took 2 wickets for 11 runs, helping Ireland win.

He then played in the 2010 ICC World Twenty20. George was the youngest player in the tournament. He took four wickets against the West Indies. He also bowled well against England. George said taking three wickets against West Indies gave him a lot of confidence. He missed a match against Australia in June 2010. This was because he had to take a Biology exam.

World Cups and Test Debut

In May 2011, George was chosen for Ireland's team for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. In August 2012, he was named captain for the 2012 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Australia.

In January 2019, George was picked for Ireland's Test match team. He made his Test debut for Ireland on March 15, 2019. This match was against Afghanistan in India. In September 2019, he was also named in Ireland's team for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier.

In July 2020, George was part of Ireland's squad to train in England. They were preparing for a series against the England cricket team. In September 2021, George was named in Ireland's team for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He was also in the Test, T20I, and ODI squads for tours to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in 2023. In May 2024, he was named in Ireland’s team for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
