George Washington Wilson (born February 22, 1840 – died November 25, 1909) was a politician from Ohio. He served as a U.S. Representative, which means he helped make laws for the country.

Who Was George Washington Wilson?
George Washington Wilson was an important figure in Ohio politics. He was born in Brighton, Ohio. He grew up and went to regular schools. Later, he attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
Serving His Country
When he was 22, George Wilson joined the army. This was during the American Civil War. On August 8, 1862, he became a soldier in the Ninety-fourth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He started as a second lieutenant.
He later moved to a different group called the First Regiment, United States Veteran Volunteer Engineers. There, he was promoted to First Lieutenant in July 1864. After that, he became a captain. He left the army on October 1, 1865, after the war ended.
A Career in Law and Politics
After his time in the military, George Wilson decided to study law. He worked hard and became a lawyer on August 7, 1866. He started his law practice in London, Ohio.
Ohio State Government
Wilson quickly became involved in public service. From 1866 to 1870, he worked as the prosecuting attorney for Madison County. This means he was a lawyer who worked for the government to bring charges against people.
He then became a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. He served there from 1871 to 1874. Later, he was elected to the Ohio State Senate. He served in the state senate from 1877 to 1881.
Serving in Congress
George Wilson was a member of the Republican Party. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives. He served in the Fifty-third and Fifty-fourth Congresses. His time in Congress lasted from March 4, 1893, to March 3, 1897.
Later Life and Legacy
After his time in the U.S. Congress, George Wilson went back to being a lawyer in London, Ohio. He continued to be active in politics. In 1896, he was a representative at a big meeting for the Republican Party. This meeting was called the 1896 Republican National Convention.
He also served as the mayor of New London. And he was again the prosecuting attorney for Madison County. George Washington Wilson passed away in London, Ohio, on November 25, 1909. He was buried in Kirkwood Cemetery.
