Georges Heights is a small area located within the suburb of Mosman, which is next to Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. It's part of the beautiful Lower North Shore region. The local government that looks after Georges Heights is the Municipality of Mosman.
History of Georges Heights
Georges Heights got its name from King George III. He was the King of the United Kingdom from 1760 to 1820. This was around the time the First Fleet sailed from Portsmouth, England. The First Fleet arrived in 1788 in what we now call Sydney Harbour.
A very old fort, known as the Georges Head Battery, was built here in 1871. This fort was important for defending Sydney Harbour. There is also a naval depot on the eastern side of Chowder Bay. This depot helps support navy ships.
