History of Georgetown
Georgetown was founded in 1833 by George W. Waltz. He planned out the town's streets and lots. The town was named after him.
A post office was opened in Georgetown in 1837. The Georgetown Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. This means it is a special area with important old buildings.

- Sherman Minton was born in Georgetown in 1890. He became a very important person in the government. He served as a United States Senator and later as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
