Eamon Gerard Murphy (born October 14, 1948 – died August 26, 2013) was a talented actor from Northern Ireland. He was known for his roles in films, television shows, and theatre plays.
Life and Acting Career
Gerard Murphy was born in 1948 in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland. He started his acting journey on stage with the Glasgow Citizens Theatre. Later, he worked a lot with the Royal Shakespeare Company, which is a very famous theatre group. He even played a main role as Hal in Henry IV, which opened the Barbican Theatre.
Murphy also appeared in many popular TV shows. These included Z-Cars, Doctor Who, Minder, Heartbeat, Father Ted, Dalziel and Pascoe, and The Bill. He also narrated the BBC Radio version of Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.
His film roles were also notable. He played a pirate and spy called "The Nord" in the movie Waterworld. He also appeared as Judge Faden in Batman Begins.
On stage, Murphy played Hector in Alan Bennett's play The History Boys. He also played Salieri in a 2007 show of Amadeus. His last big Shakespearean role was playing King Lear. Even when he was ill, he performed in Krapp's Last Tape by Samuel Beckett. This was his final stage appearance.
Gerard Murphy passed away on August 26, 2013, in Cambridge, England. He was 64 years old and had been battling prostate cancer.
