Gerlach–Empire was a special kind of community in Washoe County, Nevada, in the United States. It was called a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it was an area identified by the government for counting people, but it wasn't an officially incorporated city or town. For the 2010 census, this area was split into two separate places: Gerlach and Empire.

Back in 2000, about 499 people lived in Gerlach–Empire. Empire used to be a "company town." This means a single company, United States Gypsum Corporation, owned most of the homes and businesses there. At one time, over 750 people lived in Empire. The area is part of the larger RenoSparks metropolitan area. Most people lived in the small settlements of Gerlach and Empire. Gerlach has fewer than 200 people and shares its schools with Empire. Some people also live on nearby ranches. The closest town, Nixon, is about 60 miles south. It is on a reservation belonging to the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.

Gerlach–Empire was located in Nevada. In 2000, the total area of this community was about 94.1 square miles. All of this area was land. There were no large bodies of water within its boundaries. The elevation of the area is about 3,946 feet above sea level.
