German Creek is a small area in the south-east of South Australia. It is part of the District Council of Grant. The name "German Creek" has been used for a long time, and its official borders were set in October 1995.
The postcode for German Creek was changed in 2004 from 5280 to 5291. People say the area was named after a German person who used to herd sheep there.

History of German Creek
In 1911, the land around German Creek was offered to the government. The idea was to divide it into smaller farms for more people to live there. However, the government decided not to buy this land. Instead, it was sold off in smaller pieces by private owners.
Name Change During World War I
During World War I, many places in South Australia with German names were changed. In 1918, German Creek was renamed Benara Creek. This was a common change to show support during the war.
However, in 1986, the area went back to its original name, "German Creek." It has kept this name ever since.
Geography and Climate
German Creek is located in an important area for government. It is part of the federal division of Barker and the state electoral district of Mount Gambier. It also falls under the local government area of the District Council of Grant.
The main use of land in German Creek is for farming and other primary production. This means people grow crops or raise animals.
Coola Shearing Shed
A special building in the area is the Coola Shearing Shed. This old shed is very important to the history of the region. It has been listed as a state heritage place on the South Australian Heritage Register. This means it is protected because of its historical value.
