Germán Alejandro Garmendia Aranis (born April 25, 1990) is a famous Chilean YouTuber, singer, comedian, and writer. He became well-known for his YouTube channel HolaSoyGerman. On this channel, he uploaded funny videos about everyday situations.
In 2013, he started another channel called JuegaGerman. This channel mainly features him playing video games. Over time, JuegaGerman became even more popular than HolaSoyGerman. It is now one of the most subscribed channels in Spanish. Germán was the first YouTuber to get two special "Diamond Play Buttons" from YouTube. Besides YouTube, he also has a music career and has written books. He has won many awards for his online work.

Early Life and Music Beginnings
Germán Alejandro Garmendia Aranis was born on April 25, 1990, in Copiapó, Chile. He lived there until he was 12 years old. When he was three, his father passed away. After this, Germán, his mother, and his brother Diego traveled around Chile. They later settled in Los Vilos, a city near Santiago.
When Germán was 13, he and his brother formed a Pop/Rock band called Zudex with some friends. He started uploading videos of his band to YouTube in 2006. Germán was the lead singer and performed at many youth festivals. Later, in the early 2010s, he became the singer for a new group called Feeling Every Sunset.
YouTube Career
Starting HolaSoyGerman
On September 9, 2011, Germán uploaded his first video to the HolaSoyGerman channel. It was called Las cosas obvias de la vida (which means "The obvious things in life"). His videos were funny talks about everyday situations. He once said that his humor was "innocent" and that he liked to make people laugh by making fun of himself.
In 2013, he started his second main channel, JuegaGerman. On this channel, he mostly uploads videos of himself playing video games. This channel quickly became very popular.
Growing Fame and Awards
By the end of 2013, HolaSoyGerman had 12 million subscribers. This made him the second most subscribed YouTuber in the world at that time. In August 2014, he won the "Digital Icon" award at the MTV Millennial Awards.
In April 2016, Germán reached 10 million subscribers on both HolaSoyGerman and JuegaGerman. This made him the first YouTuber ever to receive two "Diamond Play Buttons" from YouTube. These awards are given to channels that reach 10 million subscribers. In June 2016, he won another "Master Gamer" award at the MTV Millennial Awards.
Changes and New Challenges
On November 20, 2016, Germán uploaded his last video to HolaSoyGerman. He later explained that making videos for that channel took a very long time, sometimes more than 22 hours for just one video. He decided to focus more on JuegaGerman.
By 2018, he was one of the most popular YouTubers. In August 2018, he won the "Favorite Gamer" award at the Nickelodeon Mexico Kids' Choice Awards. In 2021, he received the "Leyend Award" at the Eliot Awards for his long career on YouTube. In 2023, he won "Best Trajectory" at the ESLAND Awards.
Writing Career
In April 2016, Germán released his first book, #ChupaElPerro: Uno que otro consejo. This book is a self-help guide with jokes and stories from his life. He went on a tour across Latin America to promote it. In Bogotá, Colombia, he signed over 100,000 copies in 12 hours! This event was so big that he needed to rest afterward. His book was very successful, selling many copies in different countries.
In 2018, he released his second book, a fictional novel called Di Hola. It's a story about loyalty, love, and friendship. He also promoted this book with visits to cities like Bogotá and Lima.
Music Career
Germán was the singer for the band Ancud, which he formed with his brother Diego. In April 2016, they released an EP (a short album) called Así es Normal. They also released a music video for their song "Cambia."
In March 2017, Ancud was nominated for awards at the Heat Latin Music Awards. In April, they released their full studio album, Se hacen realidad. They also had a live concert in Santiago, Chile, as part of their Latin American tour.
Germán has also released songs as a solo artist. His song "Titán," released in 2022, reached number six on the Chilean music charts.
Other Activities
Germán has used his platform for good causes. In 2014, he supported a campaign called Agua Mi Caridad to raise money for clean water in Africa. He also helped Greenpeace in 2017 to protect oceans in South America.
In 2016, he voiced the character Julian in the Latin Spanish version of the movie Ice Age: Collision Course. He also had the honor of carrying the Olympic flame for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.

In May 2016, Germán shared with his fans that he was in a relationship with Lenay Chantelle Olsen, also known as Lele.
In November 2016, he shared a video called Mi Historia de Bullying (My Bullying Story). In this video, he talked about how he was bullied when he was younger because he was very thin. He also spoke about how he and his girlfriend sometimes faced harassment from some fans.
