History
Geronimo was named after the famous Apache chief, Goyaalé. He was better known as Geronimo. In 1876, a military camp called Camp Thomas was set up here. This camp was used by the U. S. Cavalry to manage the Apache Indian Reservation along the Gila River. Later, the camp moved east to where Fort Thomas is today.
Geronimo was also once a stop on the Arizona Eastern Railway. It had its own United States Post Office. The post office was open from April 30, 1896, until May 31, 1956.
