Gerwyn Price (born March 7, 1985) is a famous Welsh professional darts player. Before darts, he also played professional rugby union and rugby league. He competes in events organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). He was ranked the world's number one darts player three times between 2021 and 2022.
Gerwyn Price is known by his nickname "the Iceman". He won the PDC World Championship in 2021. He has won seven major PDC tournaments, including the Grand Slam three times. He also won the World Grand Prix in 2020 and the World Series Finals twice. Price has won two PDC World Cup titles for Wales with his teammate Jonny Clayton. He has won a total of forty-two PDC titles in his career.
Price became one of the top 32 players in the PDC in 2016. Soon after, he won his first Pro Tour title. He reached his first major final at the 2017 UK Open in 2017. His first big win was the 2018 Grand Slam of Darts in 2018, a title he won again in 2019. When he beat Gary Anderson in the 2021 World Championship final, he became the first Welsh player to win the PDC World Championship.
Before darts, Price played rugby union for teams like Neath and Cross Keys. He also played rugby league for South Wales Scorpions.

Rugby Career
Gerwyn Price played as a hooker in rugby union for Welsh teams Neath and Cross Keys. He also played rugby league for South Wales Scorpions and Blackwood Bulldogs. He even played for Wales Dragonhearts. For a short time, he played for the Pro12 team Glasgow Warriors.
While playing for Cross Keys, his team won the 2011–12 WRU Challenge Cup. Price even scored a try in that final game. He stopped playing rugby in 2014 to focus completely on his darts career.
Darts Career
Price started playing darts for his local team, Markham Welfare. Then he played in the Super League for Aberbargoed. Another Welsh darts player, Barrie Bates, suggested he try to join the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) in January 2014. Price did well and earned a two-year tour card.
He played in the 2014 UK Open but lost in the second round. In 2014, he reached the top 16 in some Players Championship events. In July, he beat former world number one Colin Lloyd at the European Darts Open. He also reached his first quarter-final at the 13th Players Championship. Price almost made it to the 2014 World Grand Prix semi-finals, but lost in the quarter-finals. He continued his strong start by reaching his first semi-final at the 19th Players Championship.
2015 Season Highlights
In 2014, Price earned enough money to qualify for the 2015 World Championship. He lost in the first round to Peter Wright. He started 2015 ranked world number 59.
Price reached several quarter-finals on the Pro Tour in 2015. He also made it to the semi-finals of the eighth Players Championship. These results helped him qualify for the World Matchplay. In this event, he beat Michael Smith and then defeated two-time world champion Adrian Lewis. He reached his first major quarter-final but lost to Peter Wright. Price also played in the World Grand Prix and the Players Championship Finals, losing in close matches.
2016 Season Highlights
At the 2016 World Championship, Price lost in the first round. In February, he reached his first PDC final at the fifth UK Open Qualifier, but lost to Michael van Gerwen. However, he won his first PDC title at the seventh Players Championship, beating Peter Wright. He won another title at the eighth event, with a great performance against Jamie Caven.
At the World Matchplay, he beat Kim Huybrechts but then lost to Adrian Lewis. Price also played in the World Grand Prix and the European Championship. He made his debut at the Grand Slam of Darts, winning his group, but lost in the last 16.
2017 Season Highlights
Price lost in the first round of the 2017 World Championship. After this, he was ranked 20th in the world. He had a great run at the UK Open, reaching the quarter-finals. He made an amazing 160 checkout to win his quarter-final match. In the semi-finals, he won a very close game against Alan Norris. This was his first major final, but he lost to Peter Wright.
Price and his teammate Mark Webster reached the semi-finals of the World Cup of Darts. They then made it to the final, but lost to the Dutch team.
2018 Season Highlights
In the 2018 World Championship, Price won his first-ever match at the World Championship. He then beat Ian White in the second round. In the third round, he played against the defending champion Michael van Gerwen. Price fought back from being 2-0 down in sets, but eventually lost 4-2.
Price was chosen to play in the 2018 Premier League Darts tournament. Even though he had some good draws, he didn't win any matches and was eliminated.
In 2018, Price started to play more consistently in big TV tournaments. He reached the quarter-finals of the Masters, UK Open, World Grand Prix, and European Championship. He also won a European Tour event in Germany, the International Darts Open, just two months after having surgery on his Achilles heel.
In November, Price, who was not expected to win, won his first major PDC TV title at the Grand Slam of Darts. He made amazing comebacks, including winning 16-15 against Simon Whitlock and 16-12 against Mensur Suljović. In the final, he beat Gary Anderson 16-13. This made Price the first Welsh player to win a major PDC TV event.
2019 Season Highlights
At the 2019 World Championship, Price lost to Nathan Aspinall in the second round, even though he was leading 2-0 in sets.
In January 2019, Gerwyn Price received a large fine for his actions at the 2018 Grand Slam of Darts. The fine was later reduced after an appeal.
In his second Premier League Darts season, Price just missed out on the play-offs, finishing 5th.
In October 2019, Price reached the final of the European Championship. He beat several strong players but lost the final to Rob Cross.
In November 2019, Price successfully defended his Grand Slam of Darts title. He beat Peter Wright 16-6 in the final. Before that, he defeated Gary Anderson and won against Michael van Gerwen for the first time in his career. Price then reached the final of the Players Championship Finals, but lost a very close match to Michael van Gerwen.
2020 Season Highlights
Because of his great 2019 season, Price was one of the top favorites for the 2020 World Championship. He reached the semi-finals but was defeated by Peter Wright, who went on to win the title.
In March, Price reached his second 2020 UK Open final, but lost to Michael van Gerwen. In 2020, Price won two major TV titles. He won the World Series of Darts Finals by beating Rob Cross. He also won the World Grand Prix by defeating Dirk van Duijvenbode in the final.
2021: World Champion
Price entered the 2021 World Championship as the third favorite. He won some very close matches, including a sudden-death leg decider. He then beat Mervyn King to reach the quarter-finals. He continued to win tough matches against Daryl Gurney and Stephen Bunting. This set up a final match against Gary Anderson.
Price beat Anderson 7-3 to win his first PDC World Championship! This amazing win also made him the world number one player, taking the spot from Michael van Gerwen. He became the first Welsh player to win the PDC World Championship.
In April, Price could not play in the Premier League because he tested positive for COVID-19. At the 2021 UK Open, he reached the semi-finals but lost to James Wade. In July, at the 2021 World Matchplay, he lost in the quarter-finals. Price reached another major final at the World Grand Prix, but lost to his Welsh teammate Jonny Clayton.
In November 2021, Price won his third Grand Slam of Darts title, beating Peter Wright in the final.
2022 Season Highlights

In the 2022 World Championship, Price started defending his title by winning his first match. In the quarter-finals, Price achieved a nine-dart finish (a perfect game in darts) against Michael Smith. However, he still lost the match 5-4.
On February 17, during the Premier League in Belfast, Price threw two nine-darters in the same night! He hit one against Michael van Gerwen and another in the final against James Wade. A few days later, he won his only European Tour title of the year at the International Darts Open.
In June, Price and his Welsh teammate Jonny Clayton reached the final of the World Cup of Darts, but they lost to Australia. At the World Matchplay, Price reached his first final in that tournament, hitting another nine-darter along the way. He lost the final to Michael van Gerwen.
During the 2022 World Series of Darts, Price won the New Zealand Masters. In September, he won his second World Series of Darts Finals.
2023 Season Highlights
In the 2023 World Championship, Price reached the quarter-finals. His match against Gabriel Clemens became famous because Price decided to wear ear defenders and later earplugs due to the crowd noise. Clemens won the match.
Price quickly recovered from his World Championship loss by winning two European Tour titles in a row: the European Darts Open and the International Darts Open. In the 2023 Premier League, Price won four nights and finished at the top of the league table, reaching the play-offs for the first time. He beat Jonny Clayton in the semi-finals but lost the final to Michael van Gerwen.
In June, he won the World Cup of Darts for the second time with Jonny Clayton. Wales beat Scotland in the final. In October, he reached the final of the World Grand Prix, but lost to Luke Humphries.
2024 Season Highlights
Price won his first match at the 2024 World Championship, but then lost in the third round.
In February, Price withdrew from the 2024 Masters for family reasons. In April, he reached the final of the International Darts Open, but could not win it for the fifth time. During the Premier League, Price hit a nine-darter against Michael Smith. He finished seventh in the league stage. In June, Price could not play in the 2024 PDC World Cup of Darts due to health issues, so he couldn't defend his 2023 title. In November, he did not qualify for the Grand Slam of Darts for the first time since 2015.
Despite a tough year, Price won two titles during the 2024 World Series of Darts. He won the Nordic Darts Masters and then the Australian Darts Masters.
2025 Season Highlights
At the 2025 World Championship, Price reached the quarter-finals. He had a thrilling sudden-death win over Joe Cullen in the third round. He was eliminated in the quarter-finals after losing to Chris Dobey.
Price won the second Pro Tour event of the year, Players Championship 2. He also won two more Players Championship titles later in the year.
He won his first Premier League nightly event of the year in Dublin. He earned a second nightly win later, extending his winning streak against Luke Littler. He achieved his third nightly win on night 12. He also hit two nine-dart finishes during his Premier League season, making him the player with the most nine-darters in Premier League history. He qualified for the play-offs by finishing fourth. On Finals Night, he lost to Luke Littler in the semi-finals.
After missing the previous year's tournament, Price represented Wales at the World Cup of Darts with Jonny Clayton. They reached the final but were narrowly defeated by Northern Ireland. Price won his fourth World Series title at the Poland Darts Masters. He also claimed his first European Tour title in two years at the Baltic Sea Darts Open.
Boxing Interests
In February 2022, Price announced he would have his first boxing fight. It was planned for April 2022 but was delayed due to an injury. Later, Price decided not to take part in the event, saying he was advised not to by medical professionals.
Price once challenged YouTuber and professional boxer Jake Paul to a fight. Price said he could knock Paul out with one punch. Paul reportedly responded, asking Price to "name a price."
Personal Life
While his official darts nickname is "the Iceman," many people also call Gerwyn Price "Gezzy." He is married to Bethan, and they have two children.
In 2010, Price suffered a serious injury to his forehead and chin after being punched outside a pub.
After his win at the 2018 Grand Slam of Darts final, Price shared that his daughter had experienced online bullying related to his behavior during the final.
Outside of darts, Price owns a fish and chip shop in Markham.
