How the Show Works
The programme always started with a catchy theme song. The main character, Squiglet, would talk directly to the audience. The show's main goal was to teach pre-school aged children how to draw. It also helped them learn basic colors and shapes.
Drawing and Imagination
The show encouraged viewers to use drawing to spark their imagination. They would draw to help move the story forward. Each episode began with Squiglet on a plain white background. He would gradually fill this space by drawing characters like animals, objects, and landscapes. He used his special "squiggle sticks" and a "Squiggle Pad" for this.
Squiggle Lines and Magic
Squiglet used seven different kinds of lines when drawing:
- loopy
- round
- straight
- curved
- bumpy
- wavy
- zig-zag
After drawing a main character, Squiglet would say the magic words: "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Let's make our squiggles come alive!" Then, his drawing would become animated and join the story. Everything else in the show was also animated based on his drawings.
Solving Problems and Learning
If a character faced a problem, Squiglet would draw something new to help them. If a problem was tricky to solve, the Squiggle Pad would give a clue. This clue was a short, live-action video. Each episode ended with a song that was related to the story, wrapping up the adventure.
