Giampaolo Dallara (born 16 November 1936) is an Italian businessman and engineer. He is famous for designing and building fast racing cars. He is also the founder and owner of Dallara Motorsports, a company that makes cars for many different racing series around the world.

Life and Career
Early Life
Giampaolo Dallara was born in Parma, a city in Italy.
Designing Race Cars
Giampaolo Dallara studied aeronautical engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan. This means he learned how to design and build things that fly!
After finishing his studies, he started working for famous car companies:
- In 1960, he joined Ferrari.
- The next year, he moved to Maserati.
- In 1963, he became the chief designer at Lamborghini. There, he helped create the chassis (the main frame) for amazing cars like the Lamborghini Espada and the Lamborghini Miura.
In 1969, Dallara began designing race cars for Frank Williams. Williams was the founder of the Williams Formula One team.
Starting His Own Company
In 1972, Giampaolo Dallara started his own company, Dallara Automobili, in Parma, Italy.
His company quickly became known for building successful race cars:
- In 1974, Dallara and his team designed a Formula One car called the Iso-Marlboro IR for the Williams team.
- They also designed a race car for Formula 3 competitions. These cars won many races in countries like Italy, France, England, Germany, Japan, and the United States.
IndyCar Success
In 1997, Dallara's company started working on cars for IndyCar racing in the United States. They had many victories from 1998 to 2003. Since 2007, Dallara has been the only company that supplies the chassis for all IndyCar teams. This means every car in the IndyCar series uses a Dallara chassis!
Other Racing Projects
Dallara also worked on other big racing projects:
- In the mid-1990s, Honda asked Dallara to design a new Formula One chassis for them. However, Honda later decided not to go ahead with the project.
- After that, in 2000, Dallara and his team built a race car for the French team Oreca to compete in the Le Mans series.
- In 2009, Dallara started another project to build an F1 chassis for a new team called Campos Grand Prix, which later became Hispania.
Other Interests
Football
In 2015, Giampaolo Dallara became an investor in the football club Parma Calcio 1913. He joined other important people like Guido Barilla to help the team.
