Gidgegannup is a small town located about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northeast of Perth. Perth is the capital city of Western Australia. The name Gidgegannup comes from the language of the Noongar people. It means "Place where spears are made." Surveyors first wrote down this name in 1852.
The town is found along Toodyay Road. Two streams, called Wooroloo Brook and Gidgegannup Brook, flow through the area. Because there aren't many buildings, a lot of natural plants and trees still grow here. Some roads north of Toodyay Road are even called the Wildflower Scenic Drive. This is because you can see many beautiful wildflowers there.
The Gidgegannup Agricultural Society has hosted over 60 shows. These fun events take place at the Gidgegannup showgrounds.
