Stoneville is a lovely suburb located east of Perth, a big city in Western Australia. It's part of an area called the Shire of Mundaring, which is like a local government area.

This town got its name in 1905 from a very important person named Edward Albert Stone. He was the Chief Justice of Western Australia, which means he was the main judge in the state at that time. Local residents chose the name because they were developing the area for growing fruit.

Today, Stoneville is home to about 2,050 people. The average age of residents is 36 years old. About 7.1% of the people living here are over 65.

Community and Environment

Bushfire Impact

In January 2014, a large bushfire affected Stoneville. Sadly, many houses in the area were destroyed by the fire. This event showed how important it is for communities to be prepared for natural disasters.

Local Development Plans

In 2019, people in Stoneville became very active in their community. They wanted to stop a big housing project called the North Stoneville SP34 development. Residents felt that this project was not good for the environment or for the town's future.

They believed that the local roads were not ready for so many new homes. Studies showed that the roads could only handle about 70 more houses safely. Main Roads, the government group in charge of roads, confirmed there were no plans to upgrade the roads in this area.

Because of the community's efforts, the Mundaring Shire council held a special meeting in August 2019. At this meeting, the councillors all voted against the proposed development. As of October 2019, the final decision about the development was with the Western Australian Planning Commission. This commission is a government body that makes big decisions about land use and planning in Western Australia.
