Sawyers Valley is a small community located about 40 kilometres (about 25 miles) east of Perth, Western Australia. It is part of the Shire of Mundaring. This area is known for its natural beauty and its history linked to the timber industry.

The Story of Sawyers Valley

Sawyers Valley started as a place where people cut down trees for timber. It had a sawmill and a railway stop to help move the wood. The timber came from the forests near the Helena River.

Many of the first European settlers in the 1860s were "sawyers." A sawyer is someone who cuts wood, often using a large saw. That's how Sawyers Valley got its name!

People in the area also worked in the forests. Some helped maintain the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme. This was a big project that brought water to the goldfields. Others worked in small fruit farms called orchards. There were also jobs at the Midland Railway Workshops.

The Sawyers Valley Tavern, a local pub, opened in 1882. The Sawyers Valley railway station was built in 1884.
