Giese (pronounced GHEE-zee) is a small, quiet place in Minnesota, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Wagner Township in Aitkin County. Giese is also close to the town of Finlayson.
Where is Giese Located?
Giese is found in the east-central part of Minnesota. You can find it where State Highway 18 (also known as MN 18) meets Aitkin County Road 23. This area is near the southeast corner of Aitkin County. It's also close to the border of Pine County. A beautiful spot nearby is Big Pine Lake, perfect for outdoor activities.
How Giese Got Its Name
Giese wasn't always called Giese! It was first known as Henkeltown. This name came from the Henkel family, who owned the only store in the community.
Later, the Henkel family sold their store to another family, the Giese clan. Because of this, the community's name changed to Giese.
Giese even had its own post office for many years, from 1918 until 1953. The community was named after George F. Giese. He was a local businessman and the very first postmaster for Giese. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office.
